Re-imaginging Affordable Housing: The Social Housing Development Authority

Principal Investigator:
H. Jacob Carlson

Abstract:
The affordable housing crisis in the U.S. has reached epic proportions. Many have called for a new approach, "social housing" which draws on successful examples from the U.S. and around the world to create permanently affordable and high quality housing. This presentation draws on Prof. Carlson's work developing a specific proposal, the Social Housing Development Authority. This proposal has now been introduced in the New York State legislature and will be introduced in other legislative bodies in the future. This presentation explains the proposal and shows research on the potential impacts of such an institution.
