Title: Fiscal Revenue Analysis: United Airlines vs. Delta Airlines Inc.Author: Robin Persaud, Kean UniversityAbstract:The airline industry plays a vital role in our global transportation network with its financial performance influenced heavily by several external, consumer and economic factors such as cargo operations, demand, and environmental conditions. Two of the largest U.S. – based flagship carriers; United Airlines and Delta Airlines are the main operators to monopolize the competitive territory. Analyzing their fiscal revenue earnings in the last five years has shown valuable insights into how the airlines have adapted to market fluctuations, consumer demand and their overall revenue growth. .The goal of this study was to carry out a comparative fiscal revenue analysis of United Airlines and Delta Airlines Inc. focusing on the main operations revenue reported on the income statements from the Securities and Exchange Commission - SEC Form 10-K Filings and how the companies navigated external environmental challenges. Upon further examination of this form , the operating revenue cash flow were assessed to see how generated revenue fluctuated in the last five years and how major economic disruptions like the COVID-19 pandemic affected the industry.The research method utilized was quantitative along with trend analysis from the SEC Form 10-K Filings of both airlines within the last five years. Major revenue indicators from the income statement included passenger, cargo and other revenue activities were evaluated to assess their fiscal resilience pre pandemic and post pandemic.This fiscal revenue analysis proved that both airlines operational revenue were severely impacted during economic financial crisis but also shows their resilience and how they recuperated as the industry slowly shifted back to normal operations.
