Abstract:

According to a 2024 report, only 21% of recyclable materials in the US are recycled, and most lost recyclables occur at the household level. This is due to a lack of access to proper knowledge about recycling practices. Research shows that education is vital for fostering environmentally responsible behavior among high school students, who are at a formative stage for developing habits and values. Educating them about recycling enhances their sense of responsibility, awareness of global issues, and motivation to consider their environmental impact. Additionally, this education empowers students to influence their peers and families to adopt recycling practices. To effectively educate high school students, we must engage them online, where a survey of 127 students revealed that 100% use social media daily.
