Abstract:

This study examines how the U.S. prison system has been influenced by four major historical events: the Civil War, the Great Depression, the Civil Rights Movement, and the War on Drugs. Using comparative historical analysis, we investigate changes in prison policies, demographics, and economic factors. By analyzing primary and secondary sources and developing comparison matrices, we identify key trends and differences across history and present day periods.
