Abstract:
The problem is there is limited and outdated information regarding what makes students satisfiedin the major they select, inducing research on Kean University students. This qualitative researchstudy aimed to analyze how satisfied students feel within their major and what causes that levelof satisfaction to go up or down. The results of the study are important since it allows otherstudents to understand what goes into choosing their major before they start something thatdoesn’t satisfy them whilst completing it. Four Kean University students were interviewed inorder to answer the following research questions: how do the attitudes of college students indifferent majors differ from colleges students in the same major, what outside factors like, mental health concerns cause a student to like or dislike their major, which majors are collegestudents expressing academic dissatisfaction based on subject difficulty. The results of the studyconcluded that college students in similar majors have similar attitudes towards their major.Mental health is a big factor when it comes to satisfaction and when a student is facing mentalissued their satisfaction goes down. Course difficult also causes satisfaction to go down due tothe added stress and workload of harder courses. The study showed that these factors areimportant when it comes to Kean University student satisfaction within their major. Onerecommendation the researcher would suggest for future researchers looking to do this studywould be to interview more students since it would provide more data and similar themes.
