Abstract:

Research indicates that only 35-40% of individuals with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) seek treatment, and among those, fewer than 10% receive the evidence-based care necessary for effective management. This gap is often exacerbated by a lack of awareness about the disorder, leaving patients uncertain about how to initiate the search for help. Clinicians, too, may not always provide the appropriate support, contributing to difficulty accessing care.In a recent survey of 19 individuals—either those living with OCD or those close to someone who is—the challenges of finding treatment werestarkly highlighted, with 47.9% rating the difficulty as 9 out of 10 or higher. Breaking the OCD cycle can be incredibly challenging without properguidance, and although effective treatments exist, many individuals struggle to navigate the complexities of their condition.Furthermore, the survey revealed that nearly a third of respondents believed an app would be particularly beneficial in managing their OCD. In response to this need, SteadySteps was developed as a valuable tool for individuals with OCD. The app provides crucial information about the disorder and outlines available treatment options, empowering users to take proactive steps toward recovery. By bridging the support gap, SteadySteps facilitates better access to care and encourages individuals with OCD to pursue the solutions they need.
