Abstract:

The development of artificial intelligence has gradually penetrated the operation management in retail industry especially after the outbreak of the pandemic. The application of artificial intelligence ranges from assisting in basic work like prediction to decision-making level. The study explores the extent of the impact of artificial intelligence in practical applications of artificial intelligence. The study adopts a mixed method. The researchers collected the financial data of the three case companies over the past 20 years. The results reveal how artificial intelligence infiltrate and reshape the operation management fields in the three giant retail companies, including inventory and warehouse management, customer service, and Internet of things construction. The outcome will aid retail industry practitioners gain insight into and grasp the future industry direction. This study is limited to sample size. Further research may expand the sample size and include face to face interviews among operation management department manager across regional boundaries.Keyword(s): Artificial intelligence, operation management, retail company
