Abstract:

Men experience disproportionately high rates of untreated mental health struggles due to social norms that discourage emotional vulnerability and help seeking behaviors. In today’s society, men are often expected to appear strong, self reliant, and emotionally controlled/unavailable, leading many to minimize or conceal psychological distress. As a result, mental health concerns among men frequently go unnoticed, not because they don’t exist, but because they are rarely expressed during surface level social interactions with peers. The objective of this study to evaluate shifts in stigma, knowledge, and help seeking behaviors in males. A mixed methods approach was used, combining surveys and literature review. This will be to analyze awareness and behaviors related to men's mental health. The findings of this study will offer practical implications for a data-informed campaign that promotes how we as a society can help with awareness.
