Abstract:
In this research, the aim was to examine the power dynamics that economies have with communities, and how these dynamics shape consumption and production. The 21st century is known as an era of change; however, because of these changes, some economies are growing while others are not. The popularity of being “modern” influences communities and affects what is consumed and produced, both in terms of infrastructure and innovation, as well as in the daily lives of citizens. Since climate change has made a significant impact, there have been several governmental efforts focused on rehabilitating communities, supporting eco‑friendly businesses, and promoting blue infrastructure and innovations. This study used mixed methods to understand the perspectives of citizens and included interviews with staff from the researcher’s university. The results revealed the level of awareness participants had about sustainability, along with the methods they were familiar with. In conclusion, more investigation is needed to develop sustainable local policies and support meaningful changes within our communities.
