Abstract:
This study examines college enrollment patterns among New Jersey public high school graduates from 2015 through 2024, with a focus on disparities across District Factor Groups (DFGs), race and ethnicity, and economic disadvantage. Using statewide enrollment and demographic data, the analysis explores how community socioeconomic context and student subgroup characteristics shape postsecondary participation. The study compares outcomes between higher- and lower-DFG districts to assess how district wealth, access to resources, and financial constraints influence students’ transitions to higher education. It also analyzes enrollment patterns among ethnicities, paying particular attention to how these trends intersect with economic disadvantage. By examining these factors together, the research highlights how structural inequalities may shape access to postsecondary opportunities.By identifying patterns over time, this study aims to illuminate persistent gaps in college access and participation across New Jersey. The findings are intended to inform educators, policymakers, and community stakeholders working to improve affordability, guidance, and support systems that expand equitable college pathways for all students.
