Abstract:

The video from my Digital Media class combines two genres, but one of them being video, which is sci-fi and the other being audio, which is fantasy. This final project was to help us understand how genres are mixed in the media we watch. The doll in the video is handcrafted by me with polymer clay, acrylic paint, and elastic string to hold the doll together. I dirtied up the doll and gave her a ripped up cloak to signify that she had been in a battle. Her left winged arm suggests that she was flying during the battle. The background the doll is in is a back-alley way with a pile of trash bags that are made of white stuffing, black plastic, and rubber bands. The doll had fallen into this alley way after being hit by her opponent. I made the background out of black cardboard sheets, then painted them in acrylic paint, and lastly, to create the illusion of a brick wall, I made lines with an exacto knife. After building the background and the doll. I took tons of videos from different angles to make it look creepier. I turned on a UV light to make it more sci-fi. All the audios are made by me as well. The breathing and wind noises were me mimicking wind and giving the doll breathing sounds, while the background white noise was made by a heater and the scratching metal sound was by rubbing two metal rulers together.
