Abstract:

Exercise is a growing part of our society as increased research is done on the benefits and health contributions that it has. Anxiety and stress can lead to lack of sleep, isolation from others, and decrease in academic performance. Exercise and other healthy coping skills are beneficial to college students who need focus. The purpose of this study was to explore the influence that daily exercise has on anxiety levels and mental health in students majoring in exercise science. This study used quantitative research that was conducted through online surveys that were given to 20-30 participants. The participants were chosen through non-random sampling; the survey included fifteen questions that contained multiple choice questions and short open-ended questions. Students majoring in exercise science worked out more times per week and had a preference of moderate to high-intensity workouts. Students in both major categories explained the positive impacts that exercise had on both their physical and mental health. The significance for this research is that it determined a realistic and practical approach to exercise that is possible for college students. The biggest constraint that college students have for working out is the time and accessibility. This research measured how much exercise participants fit into their routines. Although universities typically have an on-campus gym or weight room, commuters may have trouble accessing it. It is recommended going forward that research is done on how classes with information about exercise and health should be offered and recommended to students that are not majoring in exercise science.
