Abstract:

Research on the impact between parent involvement and student success during their first year of college was conducted because many college students are not receiving the support needed in order to succeed in their studies. When thinking of college, the ideas of classes, exams, and writing papers most commonly come to mind. While the question of if students have the support and resources needed in order to have a chance at success does not. It is believed that student success in college is strongly impacted by parental relationships due to the level of involvement in their child’s life. This research was conducted using a mixed-methods survey consisting of questions that determined the following: level of closeness to parents, level of financial support from parents, and student’s stress levels. The main finding of this research was that students who are not in daily contact with their parents have a harder time when dealing with the newfound financial responsibilities that come with being a college student. This research focuses on the impact of the parent in a college student’s success and how this relationship impacts all aspects of their college experience.
