Title: Ethical and Social Responsibility Implications of the Walmart 2023 Discrimination Case Authors: Jamya Spratley, Sabrina Williams, Naicai Sun-Kerwin, Asher Wallace, & Adam Yu, Department of Business, Kean University Abstract: The 2023 Walmart discrimination case brought attention to ethical concerns in corporate decision-making and social responsibility. The lawsuit involved allegations of racial and gender-based discrimination in hiring, promotions, and workplace treatment, raising questions about Walmart’s commitment to diversity and inclusion. This research examines the ethical implications of the case, its impact on Walmart’s corporate reputation, and the broader responsibility of businesses to uphold fair labor practices. A qualitative analysis was conducted using legal records, media reports, and corporate statements to evaluate Walmart’s response to the allegations. This study also explores how the case influenced public perception, employee trust, and Walmart’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts. Findings suggest that the lawsuit resulted in reputational damage and increased scrutiny of Walmart’s employment policies. The case underscores the importance of ethical leadership and proactive diversity initiatives in preventing workplace discrimination. Future research could examine how similar cases influence corporate policies and consumer trust in major corporations.
