Abstract:
In today’s world, everything is digital. Young adults are constantly on their phones, laptops, and other devices, and social media platforms often create pressure that can negatively affect mental health. Taking a digital pause can have a positive impact by giving the mind a break from constant stimulation. A digital pause includes stepping away from social media and digital devices for a short period of time to allow the brain to reset. This research objective is to improve mental health awareness by researching how often young adults take breaks from digital platforms and how these breaks affect their well being. The focus is on encouraging individuals to take a digital pause for 10 to 30 minutes or more in order to reduce stimulation, improve mood, lower stress levels, deepen sleep, and maintain balance. This study uses a mixed methods approach. Data will be collected through surveys created using Microsoft Forms and distributed to students at Kean University to measure digital usage and screen time habits. In addition, in person interviews will be conducted to gather deeper insight into personal experiences with digital usage and mental health. The impact of taking a digital pause includes reducing anxiety and depression, improving self esteem, improving sleep quality, and reducing eye strain. This project aims to raise awareness among young adults about their current digital habits and encourage healthier relationships with technology to support overall mental health and well being.KeywordsSocial MediaDigital UsageScreen TimeMental Health
