Abstract:

One main priority of business is to not do anything unethical, yet businesses are constantly getting caught doing unethical things. This study investigates an illegal, immoral, and unethical business case with a Maryland-based delivery company and the misclassification of workers. The delivery company was classifying workers as independent contractors rather than employees. The case ended in a $2.75 million settlement. In our Business Ethics and Social Responsibility class, we are learning about all things related to ethics, laws, and corporate social responsibility in business. We are going to identify the issue, analyze the issue, and evaluate the results. Looking at and analyzing a settled case where unethical practices occurred helps us improve our knowledge in a real-life setting. Keywords: Illegal, Unethical, Unfair, Misclassification, Business
