Abstract:

Criminal activity is something society, and most importantly the police, must be willing to combat, in order to mitigate its never-ending cycle. One state in particular that has received much attention is California, where criminal activity is quite common in many areas throughout the state. For the purposes of this research, graphs and spreadsheets will be the main visuals for this presentation, spanning from the year 2020 to 2024. Included in this research specifically are several graphs depicting the various types of criminal offenders with regards to their statuses, racial background (Whites, Asians, African Americans, and Hispanics being the main categories), age (whether they were a Juvenile or adult), and sex. Also mentioned in this research are the change in crime data between the aforementioned years, a breakdown of the data pertaining to offender data, and number of times a crime has been committed in a certain area/district. One surprising finding from this research, was that crime declined massively after the year 2023 and remained low today, factoring the sharp rise from 2020 to 2022, and having slightly declined leading up to 2023. Lastly, a pivot table and chart are presented based off of personal selective inputs (in this case race, age, status, and location), as part of adding significance to the research.
