Abstract:
Currently, there are 55 million individuals living with dementia worldwide, with an estimated 10 million new cases diagnosed each year. This number is projected to triple by 2050. With 75% of dementia patients depending on family members for their daily needs, caregivers face the challenging responsibility of witnessing their loved ones struggle with communication, reasoning, depression, paranoia, confusion, agitation, and inappropriate behaviors. Many caregivers find it difficult to access resources and support, manage the stresses of coordinating care, and cope with declines in their own mental and physical health. A significant issue caregivers encounter is communication, with 83% reporting difficulties in this area. Despite the ongoing challenges of caring for a loved one with dementia, 30-50% of caregivers express a sense of purpose and fulfillment in their roles. Beyond Dementia aims to support those caring for dementia patients by addressing these common challenges. By offering resources, communication aids, and expert guidance, Beyond Dementia seeks to empower caregivers and enhance the caregiving experience for both them and their loved ones.
